In the debate over wooden sash windows or plastic windows which option gives a better impression in an office environment, the argument for wood has the weight of tradition on its side, as well as the opinion of the marketplace. Wooden windows are preferred.

As for tradition, wood was a part of the first window and will probably be a part of the last. After all, plastics are relatively modern, whereas even fossils can be of wood. And wood is renewable, and we all know that fossil fuels will one day run out, if the world lasts so long.

Wood is a great insulator, lasts well when exposed to weather and even longer when protected by paint or finish, and is easy to carve for elegance of design. Moreover, it is plentiful, renewable, and beautiful in its own right, both when new and smooth and when old and weathered. Andrew Wyeth did not paint pictures of plastic windows.

An office can be strictly utilitarian and not meant for show, but when we are talking ‘impression’ we imply there is someone who must be impressed. So, for an office that will be seen by clients or customers, and which will be judged by them even if unconsciously, wood can be an important part of that essential ‘good first impression.’

Imagine a law office, or the office of a stockbroker. The image that comes to mind is of thick red carpets, shelves of handsomely bound books, a big desk, and comfortable armchairs for consultations or a highly polished conference table with company letterhead paper ready to hand. There is no plastic anywhere to be seen, not even in the ballpoint pens. So why should the window sills be any different?

Think of the door to the office. There are plastic doors, but no one wants a lightweight, hollow sounding portal when it is opened to welcome a client. The client will admittedly not be opening the windows, but the wooden frames and sills will be just as much part of the picture as the drapes that will undoubtedly frame them.

If wood works so well for office furniture and floors, why would any other material be suitable for the windows of your office? Wooden sash windows or plastic windows which option gives a better impression in an office environment? No contest.

Work completed by a double glazed sash window company makes your panes feel and look watertight. A sash window renovation can conserve on energy costs.
