Getting your home ready for a show day is a daunting task. A house gathers things that potential buyers don’t care to see. Once you’ve checked the house for repairs and maintenance, given It a fresh coat of paint and a good spring clean, you are pretty much ready for a show day. A little bit of decluttering and rearranging, and you think you’re done. You should check a few more things before the Realtor stops by.
Dirty dishes wander, so make sure to get them out of the way. Check all rooms for dishes that can be packed away. A little rearranging, some last minute touches, and you’re ready – you think. But overnight and in the morning before the Realtor arrives, there are a few things you need to check on before leaving the house.
Make sure there’s no washing on the line, and preferably no dirty laundry in the laundry basket either. Pack laundry away for the day.
Check the children’s rooms – they are so good at unpacking everything you neatly stowed away the night before, and it seems to only take them seconds to do so. Get toys out of the yard, as well.
Make sure all sinks are singles and toilets are flushed. Put out clean towels.
Make sure all the beds are neatly made, pillows fluffed and slippers and gowns put away, not left at the side of the bed.
Open a few windows to let in some fresh air. Spray air freshener or burn incense.
Keep garbage disposal and garbage bins empty. Keep the garbage bin out of sight.
Open all curtains and blinds evenly.
If you have pets, watch out for dirt and stray hair.
Check the pavement for litter.
Going through this checklist before you leave your house with the Realtor will help you make sure your home is ready for show day. Show day is an interview for your home. It needs to look its best, be on its best behavior, and emphasize its best features while minimizing its faults. A clean, well maintained home will find a buyer. This checklist will help you when you’re rushed on show day.
