For real estate investors, the economy today can be a great place to pick up some older homes extremely cheap. But, you don’t always get something ready to sell or rent out – and those fixer uppers can be great deals if you have the time to put into fixing them. For those that pick up homes that have a lot of junk in them, you need to figure out how to remove trash and debris safely and quickly. Here are some great ideas to help you out:
#1: Before you start, you want to see how much you need to take out. Take a walk through the yard and the house and make notes on what is there and approximately how many loads you think you will have. This way, you can determine how to remove trash and debris better.
#2: Then, look at your choices when it comes to removing the trash from the house. If the job is small, you can simply use a couple of pick ups, but if the job is larger, then you will need to think about renting a dumpster.
#3: Before you start the trash removal process, make sure that you go through and salvage any pieces that you can use in remodeling the home so that you save on costs on down the road.
#4: Make sure that you remove and dispose of anything hazardous that might be in the house in the proper manner – such as lead paint or asbestos siding.
#5: Now you should check to see if there is anything that is recyclable before you remove trash to the dump. These pieces, like metal or pipe, can also make you a bit of extra money.
#6: Try to get everything placed in one area, either the front or back yard, or another room in the house so that you can then take one day and remove trash from only one area. This will cut back on your time.
#7: Make sure that everyone has the proper safety equipment before you start the removal process so that you can cut down on any problems you might have. You should make sure that everyone has eye protection from dust and debris, heavy gloves, and long pants as well as boots or heavy shoes.
#8: Next, have everyone work to remove trash on one particular day of the week so that you can get it all done at one time. Even larger jobs can be done in one day if you have everything ready to go.
#9: When you have all of the bigger pieces of trash taken out, then you can head on to the smaller parts and bags of small debris so that they do not get in your way during your remodel.
#10: Make sure that you keep in mind that you will have more trash to remove after you have remodeled the home, so if you did rent a dumpster, you might want to keep it for the duration of your remodel.
Picking up older homes is a great deal right now, and those that need repairs are even better deals for those that have the time and energy to do them. But, you want to make sure that you are keeping tabs on removing the trash that you pile up. Remove trash quickly so that it doesn’t pile up too far and get in the way.
